...So everythings gonna be OK. Lets go party. Just leave money for the plane tickets.
Guys, why don't we open a page "Bets" ? There we can place bets if a bill will pass, if our ammendments will be included, if something at all will happen... This will make our life more interesting and we will be in a better mood. To wait for another 5-6 years for the GC :-)
Long Live USCIS "Las Vegas" establishment :-)

I know this is not releated with Immigration. If you dont want to answer, that is fine. Just ignore this.
I have money crunch in US. I have accumulated huge debt in my CC. In past I have sent some money to India, but now when I ask my parents to send it here, they tell it is not possible without losing 30%. This is what they heard from my bank. Any Idea on how to get money from India from my own account to which I have sent from here.
It's simple.. Find some one in your friend circle who wants to send money to india and tell him that you will transfer rupees to his bank account in india and ask him to transfer dollars to ur account here.
Simple.. that's how i did last time..
good luck to get our of debt..

I hope you are wrong about this. I do not see anything on the Approved AP that it should has been used for "humanitarian" purpose. It just mentions that the intention of AP is to allow the AOS applicant to return after temporary travel outside US. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Most people has very misconception about "parole". It is not a free/flexible travel document like visa. As a AOS applicant, one should not leave US till it is approved/denied. One MUST present in US during AOS. The parole is only for any emergency purpose; which is similar to prisioners. As USCIS is flexible, in approving the AP, the people don't realize the travel limitation of AP. They are travelling on AP for vatation/fun etc.. As per law, the AP is not intended for it. The CBP officer was right in asking the legitimacy of the travel. The AP document clearly says it is based on "humanitation" admission to retrun after an emergency travel.

BharatPremi/PavanV: I had to open an account here just to let you know that what both of you said is the voice of reason and it seems that this forum is just filled with people who have the attitude of attacking the person rather than the argument.
Folks, until you have a US passport in your hand, you can profess love for this country as much as you like but the bottomline is that you are not a citizen. You will not be treated like a citizen and you will not have the rights of a citizen. Even after you have the US passport, "legally" your allegiance is to the US but that is not true of what the US feels about you. Your precious naturalized citizenship can be revoked at any time but that is not possible for a natural born citizen. This divide is real enough that if you kid asks you, "Daddy, why can't you become president?" then you need to know it that no matter how white your brown heart beats, the country on whose soil you were born is the only one which gives you every single right that is given to all its citizen, NOT the USofA.
A. K. Mozumdar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A.K._Mozumdar)
"In 1913 Mozumdar became the first Indian-born person to earn U.S. citizenship, having convinced the Spokane district judge that he was in fact Caucasian and thereby met the requirements of naturalization law then restricting citizenship to "free white persons." Ten years later, as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in United States v. Bhagat Singh Thind, stipulating that no person of East Indian origin could become a naturalized American, Mozumdar’s citizenship was revoked. A decision on his appeal to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the revocation"
So, yes, you can kiss as much ass as possible, it will not bring your precious greencard any faster.
Jai Hind
Yes, unfortunately all of them lack the understanding of immigration, reasoning and height of ignorance is that they do not have a clue what is the definition of "NATION" OR the meaning of "citizenship".

This is a rough draft..I would revise again...I need to think a title too
It is that time of the year again. Immigartion reform is in the air. Recently there were raids on many businesses and arrests ensued. The Bush administration is showing its zeal to pursue the 'illegal immigrants', 'Undocumented workers'.The pro-immigration and anti-immigrantion organizations are racheting up their activities. You would hear a common refrain from the anti-immigration ideologues like 'If they want to come to this country, let them come legally'. So let's see what the people trying to immigrate legally face.
A major category of the people who immigrate to America come through a channel known as 'Employment Based' immigrants. They constituted almost 16% of the total immigrants to United States in year 2005. The immigration
process consists of three steps
1. Labor Certification - The US Department of labor administers this program. This process takes anywhere from 3 to 5 years. There are people in this queue who had applied for certfication in 2001. Now imagine waiting that long for the first step.
2. Immigrant Visa application - The US Department of State allocates a visa number to the individual.
3. Adjustment of Status - The US Citizenship and formally grants permanat resident status
The whole process can take 3 to 10 years..There are people waiting to be sure of their status for even more than that. No wonder people are coming over the border rather than waiting in this hell. Some of these people have come together to find the organization http://immigrationvoice.org/. The goals include reduced waiting time for green card applications, increased numbers for employment based green cards, ability to get certain benefits if the wait time exceeds 5 years.

Me too !! My ticket were for Nov 3 and i am waiting for the last 54 days ..just requested USICS to expediate the AP based on financial loss ...
You need to hurry up, if not already. They don't care a dime if you loose your money / tickets / travel. But just need to show them a sense of urgency. Thats all we can do.

People with grown up kids, I guess would prefer Canada over India. There are many problems starting with the education system, reservations etc. For kids who had been studying here from KG through grade 8-9 it's difficult to get dragged in the rat race in India, especially for normal kids who don't belong to any reservation category.
I also have a wild idea like US companies may look at Canada as a outsourcing destination if given very competitive package. One of the biggest advantage will be proximity to the US, so better control over quality etc. That may not turn into a big boom but is a possibility.
-----
I am not sure if you are aware of NAFTA, it was a trade aggrement that was suppose to be the equivalent of EU in terms of trade. It failed because low-cost manufacturing took flight from Mexico to China and similar scenario for software from US/Canada to India. This trend is not going to reverse in next few years. Exceptions will always be there.
Service sector already accounts for 40 to 50% of Indian GDP and will keep growing. Based on these facts it is obvious that long term economic prospects are better in India/ China, since you are looking from your children's perspective.
Also, you mention issues about Indian education system. I disagree. There are problems with American education system also. You can't generalize. If your kids are smart they can get into better colleges like IITs etc. I think you are confusing the issue about adaptability with good future prospects.
One last thing about issues. It would be good to let your kids decide what skils they are interested in learning, most Indian parents live their own dreams through their kids. Just a suggestion :)

I am from India and I have worked in the USA for the last 6 years. I have immigrated to Canada with a Job 6 months back to avoid overystaying. My experience in Canada is very bad. I am a MCAD and Sun Certifitied Developer having more than 8 years experience. I am looking for a job for more than 3 months in Canada and still not able to get a job. There is lots of racism here and people are not polite. I have been regularly applying for .NET jobs and the response is very bad. Maybe because I am from India. Try avoiding Canada as much as you can.
Which part of Canada are you talking about ? you may be right about the difficulty in finding jobs, but the "politeness" and "racism" part I just dont understand. From my experience of canada (BC and ontario) I can say on the whole people there were much more polite and helpful than anywhere in the US. As for racism, it exists in every country - even in the US, especially in rural areas of the south.

I am really proud of the group that thought about this idea, frankly at first I was not convinced that it would be such a good idea. But hey, anything that gets attention is a good idea. So kuddos to english_august, nixtor and the rest of the gang that made this happen.
another note: people who disagree with this idea, and feel that it is childish, please: what is your grand idea, and what are you planning to do? have you sent emails to reporters? talked to anyone about what is wrong with the USCIS?.
if the answer is NO: Then just let people who are doing something, do it.

Obama has done something. He made sure that we are in this pell mall because democrats are not getting additional 12 million supporters. Had he been only 50% passionate towards immigration as he was towards Health Care, we as well as millions of others would have been out of this mess. Lets see :). I am expecting a surprise before 2012 elections.

GO home and stand in front of a mirror and ask yourself if your 3 year degree and a masters bought for 4k will get you a greencard in eb2.
That is what exactly I am trying to find. Not in front of a mirror. But searching in forums where I might get correct answer.
It is not about 4K Masters or 14K Masters.
I am looking for information on what credentials does USCIS look for when evaluating Masters degree. Is it the Accredition of the University, reputation of the University, Length of the degree.
I just need a well thought-out answer.
I can get Masters from well reputed south african university for well below 4K. OR there are diploma mills who sells masters for 8K which are of no worth at all.
Why r u guys looking at the cost of the degree. Give a thought about why USCIS might deny I-140 when one applies with an US Masters Degree.
If USCIS does not accept Masters Degree from Aspen which is (Nationally Accredited by DETC). then USCIS might not accept Masters Degree from any university which are acrredited by DETC..
Let me know if I am thinking anything wrong..
