Since it seems pretty likely that we will be a government shutdown 2011 might as well start a thread about it.
According to this article http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/in_budget_fight_conservatives_have_put_themselves_in_a_corner/2011/04/06/AFPriirC_story.html?wprss=rss_homepage
it seems pretty clear the Tea Partiers do not want to compromise at all. They not only want 33-50bill in cuts but they want to choose were they come from.
I was listening to the new last night and instead of logical choices in cuts they wanted to go after education, Medicare and things that help the core.
refused to say cut money out of oil subsidy and tighten the ropes on agriculture subsidy.
looks like to me the Tea partiers are showing their true colors when that is what they really want.
Either way figure this thread is going to pop up.
As for students hope you have filed your FASFA by now and those who are trying to get Refunds hope you taxes are down.
As for those who have to pay some taxes a shut down could help you because it will take them longer to process the payment so you hold on to your interested longer. remember it has to be post marked by the 18th no matter what.
The Tea Party is the most fascist and dangerous of people on this face of the Earth.. They alone will bring disaster and turmoil to the people of this country. Its bad enough that the conditions of the job market, and economy as a whole are worse off than ever before(Gas rising, food prices going up).. These morons deserve to be put up a wall and shot at.
Thats how we in Ukraine would do it :)

So the iPod Nano and Shuffle are failures in the same context?
The iPod line relied on the music library of the owner and the usage options. The iPhone is a smart phone. It's main usage is constant. The iPod had varied usage depending on model. iPos shuffle extreme portability for sports and style for women, iPod nano for the casual user who wanted more features and for those with active lifestyles and the iPod classic for the owners of large music libraries and wanted portable video as well as the power user who accessed the device as a portable hard drive.

I figured this would be coming once I seen the Pioneer VSX-1021-K.
Me too! I am in the market for a new home theater set up, and the Pioneer was near the top of my list because of its compatibility with AirPlay. It would be nice to have it built in my new LED TV as well.

No, you can take it to mean that your argument a crock of unmitigated crap. As for the benefit of cutting taxes, it depends on the context. So don't jump in to tell me I'm wrong "much faster" because I'm not.

So on to my Windows XP hell...
<snip>
wow. that sounds pretty bad. but i 'think' your experience is isolated, or at least represents only a small portion of XP users, proper XP users.
let me tell you my story with M$ to give you the idea why i'm quite appreciative of XP.
i started with 3.1, on to 95, 98, 2000, ME (what were they smoking), etc... i've been living on computers all my life and folowed M$'s development (or lack of - for that matter).
my nightmares was very evident on 98. nothing worked and i had to do everything manually. good thing i was quite patient and know what i'm doing. but after 2 years of W98-SE on a P3 750, 40GB hdd and 512MB ram and 32MB Riva TNT2 (i'm always a step behind, i'm not made of money.. :p), it's staring to go bad, like a plate of food that slowly rots away. at the end, my computing experience with 98 is as follows: 1 out of 5 boot tries will succeed (not just stuck on the startup screen). 1 out of 5 of those succesfull boot ups wil allow me to use the computer, instead of crashing as soon as i move the mouse, which brings me back to trying to get the computer to start for me.
i was sick of it and my friend easily talked me into installing XP after i persisted not to for over 3 months since release. i did a clean install after backing up my data and it worked like a charm. it's been two years now and my computer's been doing great, i only have to restart it every month or so, sometimes i can go two months without restarting. but the past couple of months, as the plate's rotting away, i have to restart every 3 days or so. to avoid a system crash. thankfully, it's just a freeze-up and no data is lost during these periodic crashes (knock on wood). other than the 3 day crash thing, it's never given me problems. so i'm quite satisfied. my appreciation might have come from using a better OS after the 98 hell, but i think XP is in itself a good OS, not the best, but good enough. for now at least. :) ;)

I'd get one just for Zelda, Pilotwings and Starfox. But not at 230! That's ridiculous for a handheld machine that's primarily aimed at kids.
Gotta disagree there. Nintendo's handheld systems have always had a varied library. Have you seen the launch lineup? Metal Gear Solid, Street Fighter, 2 Resident Evil games, Madden, Ridge Racer, Asphalt. Even those Zelda and Mario titles are universal. The only obvious kids title I see is Nintendogs.

ERIC: Yes.
Funny, but considering the Man in Black goes around gathering information about people and promising them everything they want for free, I'm not so sure you have the roles quite right. :D

I'm in the same boat. It beeps, I see the update bar but the DVD drive pops open and then shuts -- then normal boot. Ugh!
that is what mine did and was fine, it popped up a windows saying the update was complete, check your firmware version in System Profiler

How would one go about dating an Apple employee??
Could you surreptitiously take a photo of her with an iSight and post her picture here? I wanna see just how gorgeous this girl is. Or what that be too much to ask?

Of course, there's probably a huge difference in hardware costs, but hey, We're Number 3, We're Number 3, We're Number 3!
Well, the price differential is not inconsiderable. Based on the www.cpuscorecard.com website, I just spec'ed out a Dell computer with a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 (closest processor to the dual 1.25 Ghz Powermac) and compared it to a similarly outfitted Powermac from the Applestore:
Powermac:
Power Mac G4 Dual 1.25GHz w/167MHz system bus
 1GB PC2700 DDR SDRAM - 2 DIMMs
 120GB Ultra ATA drive
 Optical 1 - Apple SuperDrive

$2,616.00
I tried to spec these two machines as close to each other as possible, even adding on some Dell software to account for the iApps in Jaguar, and the price differential is still over $1300. Granted, currently you can get Indesign for free, but that's a $800 value at best, and I didn't factor in the cost of an office suite for the Powermac.
Please let me know if I've missed anything in matching specs. I still am planning on making the switch from Windows to Mac, but I also am aware of the price differential. It's not enough of a difference to deter me, but it is probably asking a bit much to expect everyone considering the purchase of a Mac to ignore the price factor, especially considering the fuss raised when Apple decided to charge $8 a month for .Mac services.

It's always interesting to be exposed to a slice of history that had been up to now unknown to me. Margaret Sanger did in fact give a speech to the wives of the KKK in 1926. Here is her account (http://www.thefreshfacts.com/margaret-sangers-account-of-her-lecture-to-the-ku-klux-klan-educational-video-film-2/) of that evening from her autobiography ...
