I visited the PA DMV yesterday to renew my driving licence based on my pending I-485. With all the valid documents like EAD, I-485, SSN card, I-94 etc. They refused to renew it saying that they have a new pilot program implemented called SAVE and need to get clearence from that, it will take upto 30 days. Anybody else gone throgh this proces?? Day by day more hurdles to pass...what a life, why dont they keep their systems uptodate or provide some temp permit as long as their check is pending. I am frustated with all this GC process, name check, DL SAVE system check etc..Why dont they implement just one check and give approval to everything.. atleast make it less time consuming.

I thought of leaving this company several times, but I am working in this company for 6 years and the only company I worked after coming to USA. I invested so much for this company, like working beyond work hours, working in the weekends, making up the project deadlines for the incompetitive colleagues etc. etc. and now just waiting for my Green Card. There were so many times I thought if I get my Green Card I am going to leave this moment. Years passing by and with this retrogression thing, there is very little hope of getting it soon...
The positive thing is, my direct supervisor is very nice and I can voice my opinion and she understands me and completely supports me. I am just praying god that I should keep working for her till I get the GC.
I would only say "Hang On", or move on if you can. A lot of people in same situations, never want to discuss issues openly.
Patience does help, and maybe all the good is stored for future.
Most important is how you deal with stress associated with racial slurs, difference in treatment, and all the above issues. This has direct impact on health and many people in these conditions are victims of stress.
The h1b - GC situation is well known to everyone and they know you are indentured, some managers are called problem solvers (they pretend to hear ur voice, help you from their side and get the work done and try to ease pressure off you if they have an option), whereas some managers are called problem creators (they add additional pressure on you and make u miserable so that they get the work done). Disagree, the reason you see lot of cases with (older PDs but later RDs) still awaiting approval is because when the PDs were current these cases were still not ripe (e.g: they were waiting name check clearance)....

My argument was on when your file will be looked at the first time. Of course, to get visa number numerous conditions, such as PD Currency, name-check, various documents, etc., have to be met. What I meant is that your file will be looked at the first time, only after cases physically received at the center reviewing your case (no matter what RD is shown on your receipt) before your case was recieved, have been looked at.
Thus, even if you name check is cleared, your PD is Current, and you provided all required documents, if there are cases physically received before your case was received (no matter what RD is shown on your receipt) which are still to be looked at (at least once), your file will not be looked at.
Note that when you call Customer Support, they recognize Receive Date what you see in your online status as "...your case was received on...", which may be quite different than RD on your receipt.
Processing Dates published in monthly reports for each center are manually entered by their staff, and do not tell whether those dates mean "no case is pending older than this date", or "at least one case has been dealt with past this date", as the truth is something in between.
Of course, internal processing and handling of physical files could be anything but known to the outside world. For example, it is possible that an officer was given a bundle of cases to look at, but then he/she proceeds on leave for 4 weeks, leaving them on desk to work on his/her return.

I was part of the San Jose rally .. where there were about 300 odd people.
My neighbors had been to the immigration rally in Washington(flew from San Jose) and they said that there were about 1000 people there.
I have been following the immigration issues for sometime .. and I'm not very convinced that such small numbers can make the difference.
Silicon Valley has maybe a 100,000 Indian engineers or more. Add families .. and a much higher number. Add Chinese and European immigrants .. and you have all of Silicon valley :)
We should hold a huge rally say in the campus of some company like Cisco .. or Google(who are immigrant friendly) on a work day .. say Friday lunch time .. and have everyone attend.
Being in Cisco .. you can pretty much get all their employees to attend... which is substantial.
Also have industry people talking in favor of better immigration policies.
(we could hold it in some other company or a common area .. anything works)
Unless we can have a substantial number of folks say 10,000 or more .. I don't honestly see too much of a point.
Even if IV collects a few million dollars .. and lobbies .. it will never have the impact of 10000 people protesting.
We need to see if we can have similar rallies ever month in major hubs like New York, Washington, Seattle, Houston.
Unless we have s sustained campaign and we have the numbers .. I personally do not see things really changing.
I see people being optimistic about 300 folks in San Jose rally and 1000 in Washington. But having been to the rally in San Jose I don't see how 3 times that number in Washington is going to cut it. (Read Logiclife's post ... but we still need the numbers !!)
I'm not being a pessimist .. appreciate all the efforts that IV core undertakes .. but am totally unconvinced of major immigration changes. Looking at something like CIR being struck down .. after being on television for long and being debated .. I think we should get real.

I work for Fortune 100 company and we are celebrating Diwali on Friday. There are flyers on all the corners and are expecting more than 500 co-workers for pot-luck lunch. And the best part, organizer and main activists are non-Indian. So its just another festival in the mix that everybody is looking to enjoy. This is our first gathering followed by 4-5 more before end of the year.

Sometimes sensationalism helps a cause! People's memory are short..there are lot of rallies in DC..senators might forget about the rally but they'll remember the things like flowers and stoppers!! I agree with Jaime.

Green Tech, There is a history of posts with buddyinfo alias buddyinusa alias buddyinuk etc etc. This guy has a background of sounding like someone from India, and attacking specific community, pitching one against the other, which it typical terrorist mid-set. The other day he pretended like someone from north India and attacked people from AP. He was also supportive and sympathic towards terrorist who attacked Mumbai on 11/26. Based on that history, I read between the lines whenever he post, and I see it in that light. Others in that category are sab and gcisadawg. I hope it explains where I am coming from.

It appears form the wording in the text that, anyone who has maintained a continuous stay for at least 5 years preceding and up to the date of enactment of this bill, gets to apply for AOS and be granted permanent residence.
so with respect to EB folks, this provides GC aspirants (with 5 year stay) an immediate relief. The total quota numbers are not modified. Everything stays as is. This appears to be a one time relief to free up the choke in the system (at least for EB).

My wife is apply for AP renewal. She has her AParole until oct, 2,2008. She is travelling to india this week for three weeks. Can she apply for renewal and travel to india. Is it legal or does it have any replications.
According to my lawyer, the person (in this case your wife) must be in USA until your wife's AP application is accepted. Basically your wife should not try to apply AP when the she is not physically in USA.
After the application acceptance, your wife can travel.

Sorry to hear that. I am just making a point that my attorney told me that if you are on EAD with AC 21 and your 485 is denied for some reason then you are out of status that made me change my mind from using AC21.

I always loved this board for what it does - especially the Gurus who always spend their precious time giving input to member's queries. Well... this is not query. I just want to vent my frustration, helplessness to fellow friends in this board. In spite of graduating from a reputed univ with a Masters and very good GPA and also having 7 years of professional experience, I am bound to be a slave to my current Employer without any promotions, career growth or anything remote to that for next (God knows how many Decades) several years. ppl who are junior to me in every aspect are growing left and right and are also getting brighter opportunities. I dont care if you guys think I am jealous of them.... But does God really exist ? sorry for wasting your time with this depressing note.
