If true, it could be absolutely huge. Truly landmark. Imagine if Apple could somehow do the the TV industry what they did to nearly every other industry (segment) they're in?
The possibilities are pretty astounding. This is the Apple of folks. They have the money, drive, talent and momentum to get into any market and shake things up with a very good chance of success, and make the established players look totally flat-footed in the process.

You're going to pay the same rate for your service regardless of subsidy status of your iPhone. Why pay $650 when you can pay $200?
If you have enough competition, some carrier will fill that niche and offer a noticeably cheaper plan for non-subsidised phones. And when that happens, a full-price (non-subsidised) phone + those plans normally turns out cheaper than a subsidised phone + higher rates.
For example, regulation making life easier for mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) is one way to enhance competition.

I still usually buy CDs for music I care about, if what I am after is not easily obtainable on CD I buy from an online store who offer 320kbps files when possible. Market forces are the only way they (Amazon, iTunes etc) will ever higher quality or lossless.

Best case scenario is that the proximity is close enough that they offer some kind of discounted deal, but I doubt that. (apple has been known to offer discounts for products that are purchased right before product launches, though).
They usually offer OS upgrade vouchers after an actual release date is announced for those who purchase systems from the announcement to the release date.

Could someone clarify this for me: Aren't hard drives too slow to make use of Thunderbolt anyway?
I haven't read for sure, but I'm guessing these products are RAIDed for speed, not redundancy.
How many drives are in there? It's possible they've got the speeds up pretty high on them.

What do you don't seem to understand is that every individual person does not care what most people need/want. I want to be able to buy the phone I need. If you go with what "most people" need it would be a dumb phone then (with great battery life BTW)

The truth is, nobody is stopping you from buying that android with 4 hours of battery life if it is more suited to your tastes. You are not entitled in any way to force Apple to make a device that suits your needs. Go buy the Thunderbolt. Enjoy it.

Are people still thinking this is coming out next week? There haven't been any other updates since this story was released and I'm starting to doubt it's going to happen on Tuesday. I'd love to know what GPU the 27" is going to have.
I'm thinking the same thing. No new iMac news all week! Makes me think it's not coming tuesday. But who knows. Wish we'd get a spec list or something. I'm guessing it's not a huge overhaul of design. Just an innards update with sandy bridge and the latest desktop processors. Hopefully some muscle in the mobile video card options.
The upgrade that I would absolutely love is a dedicated ssd for OS and frequently used apps (like a 64 gb or 128 gb drive). And then a 1tb platter for storage.

Hmm. I'd say a Logitech G27 Racing Wheel and a new LCD TV to go with my GT5 game. Realistically, I'll probably get the DFGT and get a new TV only if my current CRT TV breaks.

Finally, this is what I have been waiting for.
Not listed on UK store yet, but $69 on US store. Going by that, (being same price as shuffle), UK should be �49. Heck, that's a lot for a mouse, but only �10 more than regular BT mouse and �15 than wired MM, for that you get laser too.
Not sure how often I would use it, too comfortable with trackpad and hot corners, but I will get one anyway. Be handy for later with iMac.

Lets assume I opt for a ssd hard drive and my mac ships 4 weeks from today also lets assume Lion comes out in 6 weeks. Typically apple gives the upgrade for free for anyone that purchased a mac in the last month. Would you still get the upgrade for free since you purchased the imac 6 weeks ago or is the upgrade determened by shipping date?

Maybe that's the way it strikes you, but this isn't the way it strikes those of us who've been using Pages since it came out.
But all of my work is poorly-researched, so maybe that's why I like it.

So it's not like I'm the only one who thinks that Pages needs more to better compare to Word. As it stands, I'll give Pages a shot if I need to do something fancier than writing for MFA workshops.
Plus, I save a couple of bucks.

The only stupid thing Apple did was to not realize that other companies are copying their designs left and right. Samsung has always been the worst of all. They copy everything. It is in their nature to do so. Look at everything they make. It is all a copycat in one form or another.
