I'm sorry, if you struggle to lose weight, you're not doing it right. Losing weight is dead easy.

Its just not that easy for some people

    Heinous. Absolutely hideous.

And I'm a fan of eye candy.

The faux leather is almost as bad as this "Marble" OS X mockup, from back in the day:

I actually kind of like that, outside of the ugly close/min/max buttons and the scroll bars :P

What is funny is remembering the outcry on the early leaked pictures on the iPhone 4 and how ugly it was... Yet it is the best looking phone in the world now.

Damn right it is. I sold mine a few weeks back but now might buy a white one which I'll keep until I can get my hands on an iP5. I've never considered buying back tech I'd sold before but I genuinely miss holding and using it. Never has metal and glass looked so sexy as a phone.

It's also likely to lead to a Douglas Adams-esque end-of-the-world pandemic scenario! Euuuh!

    As DNA prophesied:
"A loud clatter of gunk music flooded through the Heart of Gold cabin as
Zaphod searched the sub-etha radio wavebands for news of himself. The machine was rather difficult to operate. For years radios had been operated by means of pressing buttons and turning dials; then as the technology became more sophisticated the controls were made touch-sensitive you merely had to brush the panels with your fingers; now all you had to do was wave your hand in the general direction of the components and hope. It saved a lot of muscular expenditure of course, but meant that you had to sit infuriatingly still if you wanted to keep listening to the same programme.
    [...]
The music swirled and dived for a moment. Another voice broke in, presumably Halfrunt. He said: Vel l, Zaphods jist zis guy you know? but got no further because an electric pencil flew across the cabin and through the radios on/off sensitive airspace. Zaphod turned and glared at Trillian she had thrown the pencil."

Those are companies people don't get attached to. Apple and other tech companies are a much more personal choice, generally. It probably also helps because those people are excited that Apple is making more money, allowing them to deliver more new and innovative products then would be possible with lower cash flow.

I guess I must be old school, I'm a consumer and I think about my wallet before the corporations treasure chest. Apple isn't pumping most of the profits back int the company or paying it out to shareholders. It's sitting in the bank. Or maybe they have something unimaginably huge in mind and I guess that is a possibility.

Are you suggesting that they are handling their money poorly or that they are making poor business decisions? That would be contrary to the evidence. As an investor, I've been very pleased with their decisions.

If I were speaking only as a consumer, I'm pleased with their decisions because I enjoy their products.

I can see many first time user scratching their heads on this kind of design.

Gee, that would be a newsworthy event...confused first-time users. :)

Did you vote 'negative' on this? I cannot understand how the thumbs down vote happens so quickly, when there are few, if any, negative comments. Is Dell/MS just waiting for each new thread to come out?

I've read the post over again and if that was sarcasm, he's bad at it and should stop.

Well he did have the spec whore thing down and was a pretty convincing Android Fanboy as well.

The 2 things that convinced me:

    1) The use of 'and...and...and' a lot. Stammering: A hallmark of sarcasm.

    2) He then responded to one of my comments with a very thoughtful post (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=12377088&postcount=26). Hardly the type of thing and actual Android-Troll would write.

I was pretty sure based on #1 (do people really not know the stammering thing? I guess not!), but #2 was enough to make me certain.

So you've waited this long for the white iPhone 4, then you put it in the case!? ROFL!

You do know there are clear cases used to protect the phone from scratches, right? And rigid "bumper" style cases that still show off the front and back. Not every case covers up the entire phone.

The iPod is a good device, but for mature and affluent consumers, it's a neutered iPhone. They are good for kids and the shuffle is brilliant for exercise. After 10 years of age it is starting to be surpassed in the market by the tech it helped foster.

    Why?

Because they are weirdo-trolls who think anyone cares.

And you guys accuse PC users of sticking to old stereotypes. If you want to see ugly, take a gaze at the army of external devices that my iMac is going to need. I prefer my cables be inside the case instead of covering my desk.
And you're really going to use all that are you? With the exception of RAM and hard disks, most computer consumers never expand their computers. So all that space in the case just translates to lost space in the home. I'm a pretty average computer user at home and with the exception of my camera, iPod and printer, I have no external devices. Although I will be purchasing an external firewire drive at some point, I'd much rather have a small squarish metallic box on display behind my iMac than lose an extra three square feet of floor space due to needing a bigger desk. Perhaps when you factor in the cost, the lost square footage of the room your computer is in should be taken into account.

Apple reported a great previous quarter, but thinks that the next quarter may see fewer sales due to a perceived slowdown in the US economy (even though anyone with even a gnat's knowledge of economy would know that it is not a big deal). The stock market is a bet on future performance, not past performance, therefore people who have no idea what they are doing [read: most investors] dumped the stock to make their profits. I have 50 shares at a split adjusted cost of $10, so I'm holding on to it for the long run.

If this happens I will be 100% surprised. I mean- look at the Sony TVs with Google. They're like $600 for a 24" TV. Does anyone own one of those? I just don't see this happening. Like the article says the market is overcrowded and the profit margins are too slim. Not very appealing for any company...

I'm going to assume it doesn't mean that you actually control the thing without touching it, rather it just makes the wheel disappear when you aren't holding it. That seems to be a more useful idea.

I mean, otherwise, it's a useless feature, except to prevent screen scratching.
That is more likely. Even if a user did not have to touch the screen it would be extremely foreign to people to type or control a piece of hardware without actually touching itair typing. Look at the new ATMs that are controlled on screen. You can see people reactions to the machine when it does not operate as assumed. They press harder on the screen

I've been teaching Mac courses at a local junior college, and have found that quite a few of my students are new/returning Mac users. I think Apple has quite a bit of potential to grow the Mac's market share, particularly from the latter group -- people who abandoned the Mac during the dark days of the '90s, but are now prepared to take another look. On the pro side, I believe market share will probably continue to stagnate for some months to come, until the mission-critical applications are all dual-binary. I think we could be optimistically be looking at 5.5 - 6.0% market share by this time next year, depending on how well the launch of 10.5 goes, and how much thunder is taken away by Vista.
